Kao Niaw Ma-Muang – Sweet Sticky Rice with Ripe Mango and Coconut Cream

This tantalizing dessert deserves to be the King of Thai sweets – Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango never fails to delight the taste buds.

Khao-neo Ma-muang is prepared by steaming Thai glutinous rice in rich coconut milk and syrup. The resulting sweet and creamy sticky rice is eaten with two certain types of tropical fruits; mango and durian. Since durian flavor is not often appreciated by many foreigners visiting Thailand due to its pungent smell and unique taste; Mango offers a universal choice with its exotic sweet and slightly sour flavor complementing the creamy and rich sweet rice just perfect! To top it off, a thick and rich coconut cream sauce with mildly salty flavor is poured onto the rice and mango to add more complexity to the flavor. Sometimes it is eaten with crispy cereal or sesame seeds as toppings.
A definite must eat – “aroi mak” meaning “very delicious” in Thai!

Thai desserts are often overlooked by many foreigners that delight in many other Thai foods. Thai restaurants tend to underrate the dessert experience, yet Thai desserts offer an authentic way to top off your Thai food meal.

Here’s a bit on “Why You Should Eat Chocolate”

Have a heavenly weekend :)

Here’s a bit on “Why You Should Eat Chocolate”

Study after study proves that dark chocolate—sweet, rich, and delicious—is good for more than curing a broken heart.

The secret behind its powerful punch is cacao, also the source of the sweet’s distinct taste. Packed with healthy chemicals like flavonoids and theobromine, this little bean is a disease-killing bullet.

The only problem? Cacao on its own is bitter, chalky, nasty stuff.
Enter milk, sugar, and butter—good for your taste buds, not always good for your health. Besides adding calories, these can dilute the benefits of cacao. So snack smart: Stick to healthy chocolate with at least 70 percent cacao (or cocoa, which is cacao in its roasted, ground form). As long as the content is that high, says Mary Engler, Ph.D., a professor of physiological nursing at the University of California at San Francisco, you can reap the benefits from eating only small amounts. Because of its high fat and sugar content, limit yourself to 7 ounces, or about four dark chocolate bars, a week.

Centre Point Silom
Centre Point Silom, Bangkok is proud to share on Facebook, our latest hot review on Tripadvisor.com – Reviewed March 15, 2013

Here goes what it says:

“Excellent location and value for money”
“Polite, courteous and attentive staff. Room very clean. Superb location on river with panoramic views and convenient for river ferries and BTS skytrain.

Breakfast very good with plenty of choice. Restaurant food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Robinsons department store on the ground floor adjacent to the hotel (there is a security guard controlled access door from the hotel) and also Robinsons supermarket in the basement was ideal and there is McDonalds and other convenience food with access from the department store.
Enjoyable stay at an excellent hotel!

It’s Songkran!

The month of April marks the end of the old year for the Thai people . Songkran means “movement” or “changing” since according to Thai astrology, the sun will move into a new sign of the Zodiac on this day. Songkran is also called the “Water Festival”. Water is believed to flow and wash away all bad omens during this time. Thus, it is a time for cleaning; houses, villages, temples and spirit houses.

thailand_bangkok_songkran_thai_new_year

Having fun is a big part of Thai culture, and having fun amidst scorching heat is no exception. The hottest month of the year, April sees the entire country go bananas in friendly water fights and street parties that last nearly a week. During Songkran, most office buildings, banks as well as family-run shops and restaurants shut down completely, while big shopping malls usually remain open. Bangkok experiences a mass exodus, as at least half of its residents travel back to their home towns for family re-unions. In their place are tourists, who fly into Bangkok particularly to enjoy one of the most colourful and festive times of the year.
